How can I make the printing on clothing packaging bags more exquisite?
For ordinary consumers, they often pay attention to the packaging of the clothes they buy whether the packaging is beautiful, and then further pay attention to some information on the packaging. However, for professional flexible packaging manufacturers 来讲, Shunxingyuan Packaging considers more packaging materials and production processes, and may even unintentionally look for printing defects, such as whether the overprinting is accurate, whether small characters and lines can be seen clearly edges ……

Because clothing packaging bags generally belong to large-scale printing, and unsatisfactory situations are inevitable during the printing process. So how can we improve printing quality? As the saying goes, details make perfect. Whether it is digital printing or traditional printing, the processing of small elements is crucial. Below Shunxingyuan Packaging, a professional flexible packaging manufacturer will talk about some experience on how to better reproduce text and lines in printing.
1, Use vectorized text and lines as much as possible
In Figure 1, A shows the effect after halftoning a 50% gray bitmap. We can see that due to the inaccuracy of pixels, after halftoning, specks will appear at the edges of the color blocks, which is what we call burrs or jagged edges. B shows the effect after halftoning a 50% gray vector image. Obviously, even if only half of the dots are used, the entire edge is neat. This is the difference in halftoning calculation results caused by different file attributes. For small elements, the printing quality of vector files is far higher than that of bitmap files. If you observe carefully, although digital printing does not have such obvious dots as Figure 1, the difference in printing between bitmap and vector images is also reflected.

AI and CDR are the most commonly used vector graphics software. Using these two software to design packaging files will not encounter the problems faced by Figure 1A. This is also why many printing plants strongly recommend designers to use these two software for packaging design.
If you use PS to design packaging and there are a lot of small text and lines, you can finally output it as an EPS file, which can also retain vector attributes. However, the disadvantage is that the file data volume is very large, which will slow down the computer's running speed during subsequent operations.
2, Handling of black text and lines
The point is here! Black text and lines are informative elements on the packaging, and the printing quality must be clear and complete. So how should these elements be handled?
1. Black text on a white background
This is the simplest case, set to single black 100 (K100) is enough, black and white text, clear and distinct. However, many novice designers use four-color black in this case, and the printed text looks particularly heavy and bloated, the hue is not pure black, and it also causes unnecessary trouble for the printing staff.
2. Black text on a colored background
This is the most common situation. How should it be handled if there is company name or instructions printed on the colored picture? Set it to K100? Of course not!
In In 2, A is four-color overprinted black on a colored background, B is hollow overprinted single-color black, and C is overprinted single-color black. A will have a ghost image if the overprinting is inaccurate, B will show white if the overprinting is inaccurate, only C is the most suitable. C does not require strict overprinting, even if there is a slight printing error, it will not affect the beauty and clarity. A should be avoided as much as possible, and for B, some designers will say that I have already set it to single black, why do I still need overprinting? This is still not a correct understanding of the concept of overprinting. C is the true single black overprinting. How to achieve single black overprinting?

The implementation of single black overprinting will be slightly different depending on the software used. If you use PS to design packaging, after setting the text to K100, change the blending mode of the text layer to "Multiply" to achieve the effect shown in C. If you use AI or ID and other software, you need to use overprint to check the preview. Some software will automatically identify K100 elements and automatically set them to overprint mode. If it is not automatically set, it needs to be manually set to "Multiply". Otherwise, the situation shown in B will occur.
It is worth noting that black overprinting on a colored background is only suitable for K100 elements. If it is dark gray or lighter gray, black overprinting cannot be used, and the overprinting will merge with the colored background into a darker color, which will not achieve the expected effect. At this time, hollow overprinting must be considered.
This will also lead to another problem, Will the K100 element overprinted on the colored background not show pure black? This depends on the situation. If it is a large area of black elements, such as large text and patterns, K100 overprinted on the colored background will tend to the color of the background. If the background is a colored pattern, some dark patterns may even appear inside the overprinted black text. In this case, black hollow overprinting should be chosen. Some designers, in order to make the printing effect of large-area black text or patterns darker, will add 70% cyan on the basis of K100. If it is small text and lines, the above problems do not need to be considered, just set it to K100 overprinting, because even if there is a slight color deviation in a small area of black, it will not be identified by the human eye. The easiest thing for the human eye to detect is the overprinting accuracy. I still remember when I first started working, I asked a printing master about whether black overprinting on a colored background would change color. He said that no color can cover black, which I still remember vividly.
3. Black text with white edges
This kind of situation is also very common. In order to better distinguish the text from the background, designers will add a white border effect to the text. In this case, it cannot be used “Multiply”.
In In 3, both A and B are K100 texts with added white borders. A has a "Multiply" effect, while B does not. The single black text in A needs to be overprinted with the text of the same color as the background inside the white border, while the single black text in B only needs to fall within the white area on the background color. Even slight deviations will not affect the aesthetics and clarity.

This situation seems simple, but it requires designers to be very familiar with software performance and printing principles to understand. Therefore, a good designer not only needs high design skills but also needs to thoroughly understand the subsequent printing process.
