8. Commonly Used Printing Materials
BOPP
Biaxially oriented polypropylene, it is a film formed after biaxial orientation, it does not have heat-sealing properties, and is commonly used as a printing material. Because of its superior moisture-proof properties, it is suitable for surface printing materials for hygroscopic biscuits, dried fruits, puffed foods, melon seeds, etc.
KOP
Coated biaxially oriented polypropylene, a layer of about 1-2um polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC, also known as K coating) is coated on the surface of OPP, so KOP has both the properties of OPP and the advantages of PVDC. Commonly used for mooncakes and other foods that require oxygen and water barriers. KOP has a similar barrier function to aluminum foil, but it is transparent and the contents of the packaging can be seen.
PCO
Biaxially heat-sealable polypropylene film, it has the properties of OPP and the properties of double-sided heat sealing; commonly used for packaging disks and seaweed.
PL
Biaxially heat-sealable pearlescent polypropylene film, it is made from polypropylene resin as the main raw material, with a certain amount of pearlescent powder added, and biaxially oriented. Used for packaging cosmetics, soap, and labels.
PET
Polyester film
Like OPP, it is a secondary biaxially oriented film that is stretched longitudinally and then transversely, or stretched longitudinally and transversely simultaneously, and then heat-set. Commonly used as printing materials for machine packaging rolls, high-temperature cooking bags, zipper bags, etc.
KPET
Chinese name: Coated polyester film, a layer of about 1-2um polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC, also known as K coating) is coated on the surface of PET.
Therefore, KPET has both the properties of PET and the advantages of PVDC. Commonly used for mooncakes and other foods that require oxygen and water barriers. Its excellent high-temperature resistance makes it more suitable for machine packaging and other bag types that require high high-temperature resistance.
NY
Nylon, used for vacuum packaging, freezing, and high-temperature cooking food packaging; the commonly used thickness is 15um, because it is very thin, it makes a rattling sound when shaken; the density is 1.15g/cm3.
PVC
Polyvinyl chloride, generally used for bottle labels, single-layer material, no lamination is required after printing, PVC glue (alcohol and cyclohexanone in a 1:1 ratio) needs to be used for bonding; commonly used thickness: 40um.
Mat-opp
Biaxially oriented polypropylene matte film, commonly used for packaging puffed foods, mooncakes, paper towels, and cosmetics.
9. Commonly Used Composite Materials
CPP
Unoriented polypropylene, unlike the oriented OPP, CPP is cooled and solidified in its original state after film formation. CPP is the most commonly used heat-sealing material. As a printing material, it is commonly used for packaging paper towels; as a composite material, it is commonly used to be compounded with other materials as a heat-sealing layer.
PET
Unoriented polyethylene, commonly used PE includes IPE, CPE, LLDPE, and ordinary PE. Like CPP, it is the most commonly used heat-sealing material. Used for packaging milk powder, shampoo, washing powder, and other chemical products. In addition to being commonly used as a surface printing material, it can also be used as a composite material. It does not have heat-sealing properties and cannot be placed in the heat-sealing layer. It is generally used as an intermediate composite layer for products, which can increase the stiffness and oxygen barrier properties of the bag.
VMPET
Metallized polyester film, which means a layer of aluminum foil is vacuum-deposited on the PET surface, possessing both PET and aluminum foil properties.
VMCPP
Metallized un-stretched polypropylene, which means a layer of aluminum foil is vacuum-deposited on the CPP surface, possessing both CPP and AL properties.
AL
Aluminum foil has excellent barrier and light-blocking properties. Aluminum foil itself has low strength, no heat-sealability, and is prone to breakage at folds, so it is rarely used alone. It is generally used for products highly sensitive to oxygen and moisture, and for high-grade composite flexible packaging, offering excellent moisture-proof, oxygen-proof, and UV-proof performance.
NY
Nylon, in addition to being commonly used as a surface printing material, can also be used as a composite material. It does not have heat-sealing properties and cannot be placed in the heat-sealing layer. It is generally used as an intermediate composite layer for products, which can increase the sealing strength and puncture resistance of the bag; it is often used as an intermediate layer for bags that require pressure resistance and high-temperature sterilization, such as jelly bags, laundry detergent bags, and chestnut bags. Its oil resistance makes it suitable for packaging meat and other oily products.
