What is the difference between degradable packaging bags and fully degradable packaging bags?
Degradable packaging bags, implying that they are degradable, but degradable packaging bags are divided into two types: "degradable" and "fully degradable".

Degradable packaging bags refer to plastic packaging bags that have a certain amount of additives (such as starch, modified starch, or other cellulose, photosensitizers, biodegradable agents, etc.) added during the production process, reducing their stability and making them easier to degrade in the natural environment.
Fully degradable packaging bags refer to plastic packaging bags that completely degrade into water and carbon dioxide. The main source of this fully degradable material is lactic acid, or PLA, which is processed from corn, cassava, etc. Polylactic acid (PLA) is a new type of bio-based and renewable biodegradable material. Starch raw materials are saccharified to obtain glucose, which is then fermented with certain strains to produce high-purity lactic acid, and then chemically synthesized into polylactic acid with a certain molecular weight. It has good biodegradability and can be completely degraded by microorganisms in nature under specific conditions after use, eventually producing carbon dioxide and water without polluting the environment. This is very beneficial for environmental protection and is an environmentally friendly material.

Currently, the main bio-based materials for fully degradable packaging bags consist of PLA+PBAT, which can be completely decomposed into water and carbon dioxide under composting conditions (60-70 degrees) in 3-6 months, without polluting the environment.

Why add PBAT? Shunxingyuan Packaging, a professional flexible packaging manufacturer, provides the following explanation: PBAT is a copolymer of adipic acid, 1,4-butanediol, and terephthalic acid, and is a fully biodegradable, chemically synthesized aliphatic-aromatic polymer. PBAT has excellent flexibility and can be processed into various shapes through film extrusion, blow molding, extrusion coating, etc. The purpose of blending PLA and PBAT is to improve the toughness, biodegradability, and processing performance of PLA. Since PLA and PBAT are incompatible, selecting a suitable compatibilizer can significantly improve the performance of PLA.
