Horizontal ghosting refers to a faint shadow appearing on the left and right sides of the axis of dots or lines, its position is relatively fixed, and the ghosting varies in severity. Horizontal ghosting is generally caused by the following three reasons:

1. Ghosting caused by axial displacement of the two rollers during operation

The thrust bearing of the offset press roller is a component that prevents the roller from moving axially. If the thrust bearing is worn or loose and has a gap, under the action of the axial thrust of the helical gear, the roller will move and produce horizontal ghosting. The loose axial fine-tuning mechanism of the multicolor machine and the worn bearing will cause the plate roller and the rubber roller to produce axial relative displacement in the normal working state of the printing machine, thus causing horizontal ghosting. Solution: Regular maintenance of the printing machine should be carried out, and severely worn bearings should be replaced in time to avoid this.

2. Ghosting caused by axial paper feeding error

This type of fault is generally caused by inaccurate paper feeding due to axial movement of the paper gripper shaft, resulting in ghosting.

Solution: Adjust the gap between the two end rings and the shaft sleeve end face of the roller paper gripper shaft.

3. Ghosting caused by paper with curled edges

Because the edges of paper with curled edges are longer, under the action of the first color printing pressure, they are squeezed towards the trailing edge and gradually close together. After being pressed by the first color, when entering the second color, the paper that was originally squeezed and closed by the first color is released again. The amount of closing and releasing is random, resulting in the inability of the residual mark of the previous sheet on the rubber blanket of the next unit and the current mark to completely overlap, thus causing ghosting. This kind of ghosting mostly occurs in the two corners of the trailing edge of the first color, and there is no ghosting in the middle. Solution: The paper should be dried to make it flatter before printing.

Vertical ghosting refers to a faint shadow appearing before and after the axis of dots or lines, its position is fixed, and the ghosting varies in severity, divided into local and full-page types. Suzhou garment bag printing vertical ghosting is generally caused by the following three reasons:

(1) Ghosting caused by the rubber blanket not being able to fully reset after each transfer

Excessive pressure between rollers or improper roller radius configuration causes large displacement of the rubber blanket under the action of frictional force on the printing surface, and it cannot fully reset after each transfer, resulting in ghosting. Solution: Reasonably adjust the lining data of the plate roller and rubber roller to meet the requirements of synchronous rolling pressure, and reduce the printing pressure on the premise of ensuring ink transfer.

(2) Ghosting caused by loose rubber blanket

If the rubber blanket is not tight enough, the displacement is large during the rolling process, and it cannot be reset by the tension. There are two situations: one is that the overall tension is not tight enough, causing a larger area of ghosting; the other is that the rubber blanket is cut obliquely or poorly installed, resulting in local looseness and causing local ghosting. This kind of ghosting mostly occurs in the trailing part, and generally only occurs in the first few tens of sheets. Solution: If the rubber blanket is not tight overall, it can be retightened; if it is not tight locally, check whether the rubber blanket is cut obliquely or poorly installed, find the cause and correct it. 3. Ghosting caused by loose or cracked printing plate resulting in misalignment during operation. Solution: Tighten the printing plate; if the printing plate is cracked, it needs to be replaced.

(3) Irregular ghosting refers to the print ghosting (neither horizontal nor vertical ghosting) that occurs in the continuous operation of a variable diameter roller offset press. Irregular ghosting is caused by the printing machine itself and also by printing process operations.

Machine reasons: The main issue is the insufficient installation accuracy of the two double-diameter roller bite gears. The printing process operation problem is mainly due to the wear and tear of the long-term used tooth pads, resulting in decreased accuracy.
