Surface printing and bottom printing of packaging bags, only an expert can distinguish them.
Most packaging bags use bottom printing; surface printing is less common but still prevalent. If you need to differentiate between the two, you should be able to clearly distinguish them. Below, Shunxingyuan Packaging, a professional flexible packaging manufacturer, explains surface printing and bottom printing.
1、 What is Surface Printing and Bottom Printing

Surface printing refers to printing on the surface of the packaging substrate.
Bottom printing refers to the printing layer being sandwiched between films after a heat-sealing layer material is laminated onto the printed surface. Bottom printing processing methods allow the printed matter to exhibit a glossy and beautiful appearance.
Surface printing ink: Since the printed surface is on the top layer, the surface printing ink is required to be wear-resistant, scratch-resistant, and high-temperature resistant.
Bottom printing ink: Since the printed surface is sandwiched between adhesive layers, the ink is required to have good adhesion to the substrate (film, adhesive) and its own cohesive force.
2. Application areas of surface printing

The printed item is a non-transparent material (aluminum foil and paper, etc.).
The printed item is a single-layer structure (ink contacts food during bottom printing).
To show the unique texture of surface printing (matte texture).
The printed item is difficult to print on (printing on NY and PE).
Printing in the packaging process (seaweed packaging, thermal copying, etc.).
Other special situations (including cost factors).
3、 Foreign surface printing situation

The United States and Europe do not have the same stringent requirements for the appearance of flexible packaging materials as Japan, so there are more surface-printed products.
