The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary, and comprehensive product standard that sets out third-party certification requirements for recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The goal of GRS is to increase the use of recycled materials in products and to reduce and eliminate the harm caused by their production. Today, GRS has been adopted by brands such as ZARA, H&M, ADIDAS, Uniqlo, NIKE, IKEA, and GAP, impacting the entire industry chain and all related supply chains.

GRS recycled plastic bags are generally divided into the following three categories:
Post-consumer recycled plastic bags: Materials generated by households or commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities as end-product users that are no longer suitable for their intended use. This includes materials recovered from the distribution chain. That is, plastic bags recycled after consumer use.
Pre-consumer recycled plastic bags: Materials diverted from waste streams during the manufacturing process. Excludes the reuse of certain materials, such as rework, regrinding, or residues generated during processing and reused in the same process. That is, plastic bags recycled without consumer use.
Recycled content: The proportion of recycled materials in a product or packaging by weight. Only pre-consumer and post-consumer materials are considered recycled content.
However, very few plastic bag factories have obtained GRS certification; almost all claim to be able to produce recycled material plastic bags without certification. The quality of recyclable plastic bags produced by uncertified factories is predictable.
