Material requirements for each layer of composite packaging bags, including the outer layer, middle layer, inner layer, and adhesive layer
The compounding of composite packaging bags actually means lamination, which is the bonding of different types of films or other flexible materials together, and then sealed to achieve the purpose of carrying, protecting, and decorating the contents.
The laminated structure of packaging bags can be classified in many forms according to different combinations. However, the conventional structure is usually distinguished by the outer layer, middle layer, inner layer, and adhesive layer.

1. Outer Layer Material
The outer layer material usually selects materials with good mechanical strength, heat resistance, printability, and optical properties.
Currently, the most commonly used materials are polyester (PET), nylon (NY), biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), and paper.
The requirements and functions of the outer layer material are shown in the table below:

2. Middle Layer Material
The middle layer material is usually used to enhance a certain characteristic of the composite structure, such as barrier properties, light shielding, aroma retention, and strength.
Currently, the most commonly used materials are aluminum foil (AL), aluminum-coated film (VMCPP, VMPET), polyester (PET), nylon (NY), polyvinylidene chloride coated film (KBOPP, KPET, KONY), and EVOH.
The requirements and functions of the middle layer material are as follows:

3. Inner Layer Material
The most crucial function of the inner layer material is its sealing property.
The inner layer structure is in direct contact with the contents, so it requires being non-toxic, odorless, water-resistant, and oil-resistant. Commonly used materials include cast polypropylene (CPP), ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), polyethylene (PE), and their modified materials.
The requirements and functions of the inner layer material are as follows:

4. Adhesive Layer
The function of the adhesive layer is to bond adjacent layers of material together to form a composite structure. Depending on the properties of the adjacent materials and the compounding process, an adhesive or adhesive resin can be used as the adhesive layer material.
The bonding strength between the adhesive layer and the bonded materials is an important indicator for evaluating the intrinsic performance of composite packaging materials, and different packaging requirements have different requirements for this indicator.
